It's easy to believe that success is something children must constantly work towards. That every stage of childhood is preparing them for the next.

But perhaps...

We've been asking the wrong question. Instead of asking, "How successful will they become?" What if we asked, "What kind of person are they becoming?"

It's measured by how they live.

A Different Measure of Success

Imagine your child as an adult. Not standing on a stage. Not collecting an award. Just living an ordinary Tuesday.

How do you hope they speak to the cashier? How do you hope they treat their partner? How do you hope they respond when someone is struggling? How do you hope they welcome a new neighbour? How do you hope they speak to themselves after making a mistake?

Those moments may never appear on a résumé yet they tell us so much about the person someone has become.

Character Is Built Quietly

Character isn't developed in one big conversation. It's shaped over thousands of ordinary moments. Watching you apologise. Hearing you speak kindly about others. Sharing the last biscuit. Helping carry the groceries.
